Optomec Reveals Aerosol Jet HD High Resolution Electronics Printer

February 27, 2018

Producing electronics is tricky for many reasons. One factor is just how small and intricate the parts inside can be. Micro-transistors and silicon chips are also getting smaller and smaller along with our technology. It’s easy to see the gap in the market that Optomec is filling with their new high resolution printer. In a partnership with HUSUN Technologies, their new printer, the Aerosol Jet HD, specializes in printing tech components and packaging.

The Aerosol Jet HD will begin shipping to customers by the end of Q2 of this year. The printer will be available under $150,000. The price is very affordable for any company wanting to produce state of the art technology.

It comes with production-ready recipes that allow the printing of conductive, dielectric, adhesive, and other materials. It can also use in-line automation for a variety of electronics printing applications such as dispensation of insulators, adhesives and 3D interconnects.

Optomec’s Aerosol Jetting Technology

Aerosol jetting technology allows for high resolution deposition of functional electronic components onto low-temperature, non-planar substrates. What makes the technology unique in comparison to other similar techniques is that it does not require masks, screens or post-processing and removal of additional, residual elements.

Aerosol jetting is Optomec’s signature technology. The Aerosol Jet HD seems to be the most refined version of this concept. The high resolution that it achieves is very advanced and absolutely necessary for printing electronics. In the age of smart watches and thinner phones, it is pivotal to provide absolute control over a limited space.

Another revelation from this recent news is Optomec’s collaboration with HUSUN systems in China. The company is looking at promoting all sorts of additive manufacturing in their region. They have previously had their eyes on Optomec’s LENS metal printing system. Both companies seem to have a grasp on these increasingly lucrative markets. Especially considering how China is the envy of the world in terms of manufacturing electronics and goods in general.
