Jamco America Partners with Airtech to Innovate 3D Printing Tool Recycling for Aerospace

August 26, 2024

Jamco America Inc., a leading supplier of interior products and turnkey aircraft interiors, has announced a strategic partnership with Airtech Advanced Materials Group. This collaboration is set to advance aerospace manufacturing by focusing on 3D printing tool recycling, enabling faster production with reduced risks, lower costs, and a smaller carbon footprint.

Expanding a Long-Standing Partnership

The partnership between Jamco and Airtech dates back to 2006, with Airtech initially providing composite manufacturing consumables and supporting materials to Jamco. In 2021, the collaboration expanded into the realm of large-format additive manufacturing (LFAM) tooling. Jamco’s primary objective is to leverage LFAM technology for high-temperature applications, addressing the limitations of traditional composite layup tooling. This technological advancement is expected to significantly reduce lead times, mitigate supply chain delays, and enhance the performance of finished parts while minimizing the risk of defects.

Innovative and Sustainable Tooling Solutions

The LFAM molds produced by Airtech utilize its Dahltram I350CF thermoplastic resin, a fully recyclable polymer. Depending on specific application requirements, this resin can be ground up and compounded into either a blended or 100% recycled formulation. Airtech is currently conducting ongoing tests to validate the most effective blended formulations for high-performance applications, such as aerospace tooling and molds. This focus on sustainability aligns with the growing demand for environmentally responsible manufacturing practices in the aerospace industry.

Impact on Aerospace Manufacturing

Through this partnership, Jamco and Airtech are poised to drive significant innovations in aerospace manufacturing. By improving product quality, reducing lead times, lowering production costs, and minimizing environmental impact, the partnership aims to create a more sustainable, cost-effective, and safe industry. The ongoing collaboration highlights the potential of 3D printing technology to change traditional manufacturing processes and pave the way for future advancements in aerospace tooling.

Setting New Standards in Aerospace Manufacturing

The collaboration between Jamco America and Airtech Advanced Materials Group exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to aerospace manufacturing. By embracing 3D printing tool recycling, the partnership enhances production efficiency and product quality while significantly contributing to sustainability within the industry. As Jamco and Airtech continue to innovate, their work is poised to set new standards for cost-effectiveness, safety, and environmental responsibility in aerospace manufacturing.
