Carbon Launches EPU Pro Platform and Showcases Expanded Portfolio at Formnext 2024

November 18, 2024

Carbon is set to unveil its latest innovation, the EPU Pro platform, at Formnext 2024. Designed to set new standards in elastomer performance and usability, the EPU Pro platform introduces a groundbreaking dual-cure resin in a single container, streamlining production workflows. This addition enhances Carbon’s extensive materials portfolio, underscoring its focus on high-performance, sustainable solutions for mass customization and manufacturing at scale.

Advancing Additive Manufacturing with EPU Pro

The EPU Pro platform builds on Carbon’s expertise in elastomeric materials, delivering improved mechanical properties, tunable stiffness, and custom color options. This latest material can integrate foaming agents to create unique tactile properties, such as a suede-like finish, and allows for intricate designs with delicate structures and complex curves.

Expanding on its existing elastomers, such as the energy-damping EPU 45 and bio-derived energy-returning EPU 46, EPU Pro undergoes rigorous testing to meet the demands of high-performance applications across multiple industries. The material is engineered for both durability and versatility, opening new possibilities for designers and manufacturers seeking advanced solutions.

“The EPU Pro platform offers unprecedented design flexibility, haptic properties, and mechanical performance for a wide range of applications,” said Jason Rolland, SVP of Materials at Carbon. “Our integrated approach to material science, software, and hardware continues to push the boundaries of what additive manufacturing can achieve.”

Enabling Mass Customization at Scale

Carbon’s recently launched Custom Production Software enables businesses to scale customization and personalization in manufacturing. Paired with the Carbon Design Engine and Lattice Search Tool, this software allows designers to create products with precisely tuned multi-zonal lattices that offer customized performance and comfort.

This technology has already found practical application in the cycling industry, with fizik utilizing the platform for its One-to-One custom saddles, tailored to individual rider preferences. “Carbon’s platform has allowed us to deliver unmatched levels of personalization and comfort without compromising performance,” said Giovanni Fogal, Brand Director at fizik.

Vertically Integrated Innovation

Carbon’s vertically integrated model combines material development, advanced software, and hardware engineering to deliver complete solutions for product design and manufacturing. This synergy allows customers to reduce time-to-market while creating high-performance products that meet demanding specifications.

For those attending Formnext, Carbon is showcasing its EPU Pro platform and other innovations at Hall 11.1, Booth D22, see the interactive floorplan.
