Ferrari F80 Showcases Additive Manufacturing in Suspension System

October 21, 2024

Ferrari has unveiled its latest supercar, the F80, marking a milestone as the first Ferrari road car to incorporate additively manufactured structural components. The F80 features an advanced independent suspension system with a double wishbone layout, active inboard dampers, and suspension arms created using Additive Manufacturing.

Designed for both road and track performance, the F80’s suspension system offers several innovative advantages, including a more precise wheel control, reduced unsprung mass, and a streamlined layout that eliminates the need for an anti-roll bar. This setup also includes a camber angle correction function for improved handling.

Advanced Active Suspension for Road and Track

The suspension system is powered by four electric motors and incorporates Additive Manufacturing in the production of key components like the suspension arms. This technological advancement allows the F80 to maintain a smooth ride over uneven surfaces while delivering optimal performance on the track. At low speeds, the system focuses on mechanical balance and controlling the car’s center of gravity. As speed increases, it works in harmony with the car’s active aerodynamic system to enhance aerodynamic balance, particularly during braking and cornering.

Power and Performance in Ferrari’s Most Powerful Road Car

With a powerful three-litre V6 engine and hybrid electric motor system, the F80 produces an impressive 1200 horsepower, making it the most powerful road-going Ferrari ever. It boasts a 0-62 mph acceleration time of just 2.15 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph. Limited to just 799 units and priced at around €3.6 million ($3.9 million), the F80 has already been allocated to buyers.
